Heavy-Duty Doors for Commercial Buildings

Commercial door hardware is everything that hangs, controls, and secures a door. That includes locksets, exit devices, door closers, hinges, and access control trim. In a busy building, these parts can open and close thousands of times a week. We help you pick the right ANSI/BHMA grade for each opening, then install it so the door latches every time. Our team serves offices, schools, hospitals, hotels, and government sites across Maryland, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia. Every job is planned around your codes, your traffic, and your budget.

Code-Compliant Hardware That Passes Inspection

A lever that sticks or a closer that slams is more than a nuisance. It can fail an ADA review or a fire door inspection. ADA rules call for hardware you can use with one hand, mounted 34 to 48 inches above the floor. NFPA 80 requires fire doors to self-close and latch. We check each opening against these rules, then fix or replace what falls short. Your doors stay safe and ready for the inspector.

Commercial Door Services by Type

Every door hardware type has its own job and its own rules. Choose a hardware type to learn how it works, which grade fits your building, and how we install, repair, or replace it. Our locksmiths service locksets, exit devices, door closers, hinges, and access control hardware on hollow metal, wood, and aluminum storefront doors.

What does ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 mean for commercial door hardware?
ANSI/BHMA grades show how well hardware holds up under testing, and Grade 1 is the toughest level. A Grade 1 cylindrical lever lock must pass 1,000,000 test cycles, and a Grade 1 door closer must pass 2,000,000. We recommend Grade 1 for main entrances, stairwells, and other high-traffic doors. Grade 2 can be a smart, lower-cost choice for offices and storage rooms with lighter use.

Under the 2010 ADA Standards, door hardware must work with one hand, with no tight grasping, pinching, or twisting of the wrist. It must sit 34 to 48 inches above the floor. Interior doors should open with no more than 5 pounds of force, and closers should take at least 5 seconds to swing from 90 to 12 degrees. Round knobs and over-tightened closers are the most common problems we find. We can test your doors and fix what fails.

NFPA 80 requires every swinging fire door to close and latch on its own. That means a listed closer, positive latching hardware, and approved hinges. If the door is on an exit route that needs panic hardware, it must use fire exit hardware, not a standard panic bar. Fire door assemblies also need a yearly inspection. Swapping in unlisted parts can put the door’s fire rating at risk.
