Glass Door Locks Replacement & Installation in Maryland

Glass door locks are locks for all-glass and glass-panel doors that secure a storefront or office by fastening to the glass instead of a wooden edge. The call we hear most: the key turns but the door will not lock. King Locksmith and Doors Inc. repairs, rekeys and replaces glass door locks across Maryland, Washington DC and Northern Virginia, licensed and insured for 25 years.

Glass Door Lock Overview

Which lock fits depends on your door. Frameless tempered glass doors take a patch lock, a housing clamped over a notch in the glass, or a bottom rail deadlock, a channel along the lower edge that drops a bolt into a floor strike. Aluminum storefront doors take a narrow-stile deadlock set into the thin frame beside the glass.

Most run on a mortise cylinder, the round keyed unit screwed into the lock body, 1 or 1-1/8 inches long. Storefront deadlock backsets, the distance from door edge to cylinder center, run 31/32 or 1-1/8 inches. Tempered glass cannot be drilled once made, so a replacement must match the cutouts there.

Advantages of a Glass Door Locks

A frameless door locks as firmly as a wooden one, because a patch lock or bottom rail carries the deadbolt on the door’s own edge. Storefront doors resist prying even when the frame flexes, because the hook bolt curves up behind the strike.

One key runs the glass door and the rest of the building, because its mortise cylinder takes the same keyways as your other locks and rekeys in minutes. Want your glass door at that standard? We install it in one visit.

Common Applications for a Glass Door Lock

Frameless glass doors front the retail shops, salon suites and office lobbies we serve across the District of Columbia, and narrow-stile aluminum storefront doors run down every strip center. Inside, they close off conference rooms, fitness studios and the glass vestibule between a lobby and its elevators.

They are the wrong choice on a sliding patio door, where the panel rides in a track and a surface-mounted sliding lock fits instead. Not sure which lock your glass door needs? We survey it free.

Top Glass Door Lock Brands We Trust & Recommend

5 brands earned our trust on glass doors: cylinders and bolts we stock, hardware that survives storefront traffic, keying that fits the system you run.

Adams Rite MS1850

Adams Rite MS1850 is the deadlock inside countless storefront doors, and we stock its bolts and cylinders, so a jammed door is fixed same day.

CRL Patch Locks

CRL patch locks and bottom rails match the notches cut in frameless tempered doors, which lets us replace a worn housing without touching the glass.

Medeco High-Security Cylinders

Medeco high-security cylinders fit the mortise housing and use keys that cannot be copied without authorization, so a street-facing storefront resists picking and stray copies.

Schlage Mortise Cylinders

Schlage mortise cylinders drop into glass door locks and pin to the keyway your other doors use, so the glass door joins your key system.

Common Glass Door Lock Failures We See

The key turns but the door never locks: the cylinder cam, the tab behind the cylinder that drives the bolt, has broken or slipped its slot. The cylinder spins in the housing: the set screw holding it has loosened. The door locks only when lifted: the pivots have sagged and the bolt misses its floor strike.

We inspect the cylinder and cam first, then bolt throw, then pivot alignment, with parts for each on the truck. Locked out? Our mobile units respond 24/7. Call (240) 345-1455 in Maryland or (202) 800-2622 in Washington DC and NOVA.

Glass Door Lock Repair & Replacement Techniques

A broken cam is replaced on the cylinder, a spinning cylinder is reseated and its set screw tightened, and a sagging door is reset on its pivots so the bolt meets the strike. We carry cams, mortise cylinders and hook bolts, so most repairs finish that day.

Replacement wins when a bolt is bent by prying, a patch housing is cracked or parts are discontinued. We match backset, cylinder length, bolt type and finish so the new lock fits the cutouts in your door, no new holes, keyed to your current key. Our in-house door expert realigns pivots that visit.

Will a glass door lock fit the door I already have?

Yes, if it matches the notch or frame cutout already there, since tempered glass cannot be drilled. We measure first.

Yes, in nearly every case. Its mortise cylinder pins to your keyway, so your master key opens it too.

Years on a busy door. Most failures trace to sagging pivots or loose set screws, both quick fixes.

A keyed block at the corner is a patch lock, a bar on the bottom is a bottom rail, a keyhole in the frame is a narrow-stile deadlock.
